ZIP by Kristie Kalchik Mikowski
|
So there I was, sitting on the couch waiting for my cousin to arrive.
Course I knew she was going to want to play with my favorite stuffed
monkey, Zip. Now this always annoyed me and she knew it. Why else would
she want to play with Zip everytime she came over? As with every child,
most of the annoyance simply came from the fact that she wanted to play
with something that was mine. Now I didn't say that when she wasn't over
that I actually played with Zip, I only said that it annoyed me. So the ritual of
Heather and I would begin. We would first spend our time feeling each other
out to see what kind of mood each was in. Then we would slowly try to
begin to play with each other in some sort of way. What could we do I would
think as to avoid the whole Zip thing. In return I knew she was plotting with
every fiber of her being to come up with anything that would involve Zip.
Eventually before to long Heather would have my beloved Zip. Why you
ask? Because "Aunt Joan" would step in and insist that it was the right
thing to do, to let "Her" play with Zip because she was a guest.
Talk about wanting to pummel someone.
I mean really. What was she thinking? For crying out loud there was other
toys. Why did she have to have Zip? As an adult of 40 years now, I have
pondered that very thought many times. This is what I have found.
We as people almost from birth, are just not happy with what we have.
We seem to be forever trying to covet other people, their beliefs and their
belongings. How beautiful would it be if we all could truly believe and
understand what wonderful individuals we all are in our own rights.
As for the other side of that coin, why is it when we as people have a talent
or an ability or even something such as Zip, that we aren't always able to just
simply share with the rest of the world, that special something God has
given to us?
To all of you including myself, share your Zip with someone. Don't be afraid to pass on a talent, a loving thought or any other gift you may have to offer, I promise that someone will give Zip back. Heather this is for you. I love ya. Kristie
